Purgatory Flip
Windows build is strongly recommended. Web build is missing tutorial functionality. MacOS build is untested.
A virtual steampunk board game developed for the first College Game Jam.
2-player local multiplayer only.
Units:
- Lord (the one in the center): acts like the King in Chess, if eliminated the game is over
- Heavy (the ones on the edges): can push down the space it is on
- Cultist (the ones on the bottom): can swap itself with the unit on the other side of the board (even if there isn't anything there)
Rules:
- Only one unit (from either board) is selected per turn
- The selected unit can (one or both, in order): Move 2 spaces in any direction (including diagonally) but cannot combine directions AND Activate its ability (heavy pushes space it is on down/cultist swaps boards)
- A unit can always move onto a low or neutral space but can never move onto a raised space
- A unit is captured if an enemy unit moves onto its space
- When a unit is captured: If it is on the top board, it moves to the bottom board (If there is already a unit in that space on the bottom board, that unit is eliminated) OR If it is on the bottom board, it is eliminated
Controls:
- Select unit/space: left click
- Activate ability: left click unit after selected
- Deselect unit/space: right click
- Flip board: space bar
- End/pass turn: enter
- Concede/end game: escape

Woah! I love how it looks, I love how the board ripples when you invert the board, I like the concept of thinking in a third dimension. But I am very confused about how the game is played. What is the objective? What do pieces do? Does it mean anything when the pieces sink into the board?
I really think this looks cool, but I'm very confused on how to play it!
Thank you for trying our game. I'm sorry you found it confusing. There is a tutorial in-game (though it doesn't work in the web version, hence the recommendation at the top of the page). I've now also added the tutorial to this page as a trailer and included a text version in the description. I hope you'll give the game another try.
I definitely will! It looks very cool.
