CAS 117 2D Platformer
Credits:
- Original project by Professor Brian Winn
- Tutorials by Declan McClintock
- Component pieces assembled by Walker McDonald
Modifications:
Major
- Designed, playtested, and iterated a single large-scale nonlinear level including 3 optional extra life pick-ups with more challenging platforming puzzles
- Designed and implemented the ability for the player to jump between 8- and 32-bit layers of the level (including a visual effect)
- Remade all player sprites (including the jump effect) and two rule tiles in an 8-bit style
Minor
- Created a new pick-up (including art) which creates new hazards upon collection and is required for progression
- Designed and implemented a "glitch" particle effect used as both a stationary hazard and as a retexture of the waypoint enemy type
- Implemented a command-line-esque UI element to provide both tutorial information and a minimal story
- Removed score from UI because it was unused
- Changed the game name to "Pico Space-Stronaut Upgrade" to reflect the added 8-bit element of the game
- Added both the 8-bit character and a seizure warning (for the glitch effects) to the main menu
- Removed the level-select option as there is only 1 level
- Completed the instructions and credits sections of the main menu
